I am Tianyu Du

I bring machine learning to economics and social science.

Hi, this is Tianyu! I am currently studying at Stanford University as a master’s student in Management Science & Engineering (MS&E). I am also working as a research assistant for Prof. Susan Athey at Stanford Graduate School of Business.

My Story

September, 2022. I will be joining Stanford Institute for Computational and Mathematical Engineering (ICME) to pursue a doctoral degree.

May, 2021. I am excited to join Professor Susan Athey’s research group to explore the application of machine learning in economic and social science questions.

September, 2020. I joined the department of management science & engineering (MS&E) at Stanford University for my master’s degree. At Stanford, I am collaborating with Professor Jure Leskovec in the Stanford Network Analysis Platform (SNAP) group and working on analyzing financial transaction graphs.

Summer, 2020. I was working with prof. Ashton Anderson from the computational social science lab at University of Toronto on analyzing chess players’ behaviours.
June, 2020. I received the honours bachelor of science degree with high distinction from University of Toronto.
I was awarded the Arthur M. Kruger honours scholarship for being the top graduating student from Woodsworth college.
Besides, I received the Reza Satchu award for excellence in economics as the top graduating student from the department of economics.
Summer, 2019. I was awarded the International Experience Award (Killam Fund) and visited Stanford Univeristy for the summer quarter. I was focusing on machine learning and data science.
September, 2017. I joined the Woodsworth College at University of Toronto for my undergraduate study in economics, mathematics and computer science.

June, 2017. I graduated from Hangzhou Foreign Language School, Cambridge A Level Center.

Lecture Notes

I typeset my notes for lectures at UToronto, Stanford and other places using LaTex, and these notes are publicly avaiable!

I did several projects on the interdisplnary area of economics, data science and computer science.

Here is a list of my term papers and thesis on economics and data sciences at University of Toronto.
